AEK Athens FC, GreeceNovember 24, 2014
Back in 2006, AEK Athens FC was Tickethour’s first customer and we have worked with the club ever since. Everything about AEK is ‘big’. Founded in 1924, AEK is one of Greece’s biggest and most successful clubs, having won 11 Championships, 14 Greek Cups, 1 League Cup and 3 Super Cups. The team plays in Greece’s biggest footballing arena - the 74,000-capacity Olympic Stadium OAKA - and it regularly attracts the biggest crowds. No wonder that AEK wanted a big ticketing system to match.
Not just ‘big’. AEK wanted a completely new ticketing website that was not only more convenient, but would help the club increase sales and could offer its fans a range of innovative features. Crucially, AEK also wanted to avoid long queues at the stadium on match days and to implement new payment platforms such as Paypal and Paysafe. What the club ‘wanted’ was a new and improved website; what it actually ‘needed’ was a ticketing solution that would be the envy of every other club in Greece.
At Tickethour, we provide cutting edge ticketing solutions that are perfect for stadium-sized crowds. In this case, we started by rebuilding the AEK website from the ground up, introducing a fully responsive framework that works seamlessly on any device. With our HTML5-powered seat selection, customers can buy their match tickets on a smartphone or tablet and still be able to choose their preferred seats in the stadium. No desktop computer required. We also developed new access control software that ushers in a new age of mobile digital ticketing. Rather than dispatch physical tickets in the post or ask the customer to print their tickets out at home, AEK fans can now enter the stadium simply by showing a QR code send to their mobile phone. This code acts as a digital ticket and it can be used by the fan who purchased it online or by his/her nominated friends - there’s a handy ‘send to friend’ option on the website, enabling fans to buy tickets for other people. In a nutshell our on-line ticketing services for AEK FC: i) Multiple sales channels (internet, mobile phone, ticket office), possibility of booking from all kinds of devices (desktop, tablet, smartphone) using HTML5, the latest technology tools with no extra software and restrictions, ii) Very simple navigation, friendly and easy user interface and user experience, iii) High security and encryption standards for 100% safety using a credit card, iv) Stadium access with multiple modes (Thermal, Print @ Home, Mobile Ticket), v) Multiple payment methods (Tokenised Credit Cards, Paypal, Paysafe), vi) Personalised ticket with the name of the supporter, vii) Ability to view the transaction history
AEK is the first club in Greece to embrace mobile ticketing, both in terms of mobile delivery and mobile access control. Tickethour quickly developed and deployed the new software that powers it, allowing fans to easily complete their purchases using securely saved credit card information, Paysafe or Paypal. The first game to be ticketed with this new system saw over 10,000 tickets scanned in under 30 minutes. And, after the last update to the software, a typical ticket purchase takes less than 10 seconds to be completed. AEK got their wish - no other club has such a powerful and reliable system.
